Holy Holidays - Leviticus 23
Scripture - Leviticus 23
Observation - This entire chapter lays out several holidays commanded by God to the Jewish people in the time of Moses. Each holiday has its own meaning and significance, but it is exciting to see that God is very serious about celebrations. He fills the calendar with parties, for all sorts of reasons.
No doubt the meanings of these holidays started to fade as time went by, and they turned from real celebrations into simple traditions. But the Bible records how the celebrations are to be done, and it would have given great joy for a person to go back and re-discover the meaning of their holidays.
Application
Am I intentionally celebrating the work of God? Have my days of celebration turned into mere tradition? Or lost their meaning altogether? I need to intentionally take time out to celebrate who God is, what he will do and what he has done.
Prayer
Jesus I worship you and I want to celebrate you. I want to put you in your right, sacred place, and not ever forget or take you for granted.
Jesus
Jesus is the fulfillment of the feasts in this chapter. He is our Sabbath rest (Hebrews says this) he is our Passover lamb (1 Corinthians) etc... All celebrations are either about him, or about his work.
